WAR & PEACE
So far it has been a month of contrasts. I was in East Anglia last week and, following a visit to Norwich Cathedral, I called in to a remarkable museum, the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum in Thorpe Abbots. This was an American Airbase during World War II that covered over 500 acres and included three runways. Construction began in 1942 with a first mission the following year. The stories behind some of the young pilots who lost their lives were extremely poignant and the collection of memorabilia is excellent. It was interesting to mingle with visitors from the US who were there to discover more about grandparents who were loved and lost.
In complete contrast, on returning home I attended Evensong in Winchester Cathedral. It was a place of peace and wonderful music. The choir is quite magnificent and it is a perfect place to reflect on the troubled times in which we live.
Meanwhile I’m here at my desk still writing. I find time every day, usually in the quiet of early mornings. I’m busy with a new novel in a different genre, hopefully the first in a series. So the writing career that began for me on the day I retired from education goes on into its twentieth year.
I’ve had several requests for speaking engagements and these will be published on the Events page of this website. The next one is in Alresford on 3rd June when I shall be speaking to their local Women’s Institute.
Keep safe and happy reading,
Jack
